In Boston at Braves Field 42,620 fans watched the Red Sox defeat the Dodgers 4 to 1 to take the 1916 World Series title. Ernie Shore earned the win becoming the first pitcher with two victories in the series and Boston secured the championship on the fifth game.
In Wallace Idaho on October 12 a courtroom heard defense lawyer Gray read Rossi's love letters from his wife Rosal. The letters, written while she was in California, reveal devotion amid liquor troubles and her claimed recovery. The case concerns former mayor Rossi, accused of killing Clarence Daiquist amid alleged improper relations with Mrs. Rossi.
Katherine Kane, a Cleveland typist, hid the payroll of 1175 behind a newspaper and handed over 100 from the cash drawer when two armed black bandits threatened her. Her action preserved the 1175 for the Standard brass foundry company’s employees.
Democratic candidate Dr E J Brown attacked Prosecutor Lundin as inefficient and insincere in enforcing liquor laws during a Grand Theatre address. He urged release of special investigation reports, criticized selective enforcement, cited past city graft cases, and challenged Lundin on a June 1916 liquor import order affecting druggists.

James H. Kerfoot, an engineer at the Central Eureka mine, killed Obron Mojovich during a clash with strikers. About 150 miners pursued Kerfoot to the mine grounds while hundreds more gathered. The fire bell summoned volunteers to aid Sheriff Lucot, and authorities dispersed the mob amid a tense stand-off. During a Rockport tornado, rain snakes were reported.
In Bayonne New Jersey over 36 hours strikers from the Standard Oil plant clash with police leaving one woman dead and four perhaps fatally injured. Four policemen are wounded and more than 30 rioters suffer bullet wounds as firemen respond to multiple alarms. Police drive off assailants at a saloon and amid a beachhead deadline strikers block piers and halt industrial activity along the riverfront.
Six strong Allied attacks between Morval and Bouchavesnes north of the Somme were fully repulsed, with official statements noting the enemy defense held firm through early today in Berlin.
When the Women's Hughes special train arrives in Seattle Friday at 1 o'clock at King Street station it will be met by one of the largest reception committees of women in Seattle's history. A public meeting will be held at 2 p.m. at the Moore where several visitors will speak.
Irwin of the San Diego exposition announced the fair would close at midnight on New Years Day 1917. He urged Seattle residents visiting California for the winter to reach San Diego before closing, noting foreign and US exhibits remain intact and grounds are more beautiful than ever.

Pot Sweets and garlic infected cholera bacilli were dropped on the Rumanian Black sea port of Constanza by enemy flyers. The war office alleges a new form of frightfulness in warfare causing indignation in official circles. It does not state if any children consumed the poisoned sweets.
