A Washington census estimate places Seattle as the 21st largest city in the United States with about 190,000 residents, ranking ahead of Indiana and just behind another major city. The report notes Seattle’s rapid growth and lists the top 40 cities counted so far in the census.
A jailed man named Bart used a revolver to extort a brand new bat from Frank Donovan on St. last night. Foster claimed a Derringer tied job to dodge further inquiry as Judge Gordon sentenced Bart to twenty days after noting the hat size trick.

Berlin reports reveal that King Manuel of Portugal fell from power due to his mistress Mlle Cathy Des Lisa a French dancer. Officials say Manuel flaunted her with jewels and money nearly draining the treasury while neglecting state affairs and his subjects discontent grew.

Oakland, California dated October 5 reports Theodore Roosevelt will receive a telegram noting a namesake in the third of triplets born to Mrs. John Blunetti. The girl will be named Theodora but will be called Teddy.

C. D. Hillman will stand for trial in federal court on six indictments charging fraud and mail fraud. The hearing with Judge Danworth in Tacoma covered evidence handling as District Attorney Toda seeks to keep books in government possession. Bond set at $30,000 by David H. Moss and W. D. Hofius.
An urgent telegram from Alameda County Sheriff Frank Barnett asks Capt. Tennant to detain the man identified as Hand and a half Kelly alias Tommy Lee, fatally wounded by accomplices after a safe cracking in Niles on December 26. Kelly died at the city hospital last night with seven bullet scars.
Mayor Gill signed an ordinance appropriating 950 dollars for the council committee investigating graft charges led by Councilman Max Wardall. The mayor said the funds should be sufficient for the committee’s purpose.
