Disaster at the Pacific Coast Company mine near Black Diamond causes multiple deaths and injuries. Five bodies recovered. four miners among the missing with several workers treated. coroner and officials travel to the scene as rescue efforts continue.
Oct 2. Joan Mullen a miner was clubbed and run over by an electric car, then struck by a vehicle. State troops dispersed a mob that attacked soldiers with stones. no injuries reported. Rioters fired on Sterrett colony soldiers, one man arrested with a revolver.
A riot broke out on the State university campus as four officers attempted to arrest several students for a tea and bicycles on andred students seized the officers. They stripped coats and helmets, tied them to trees, and turned on the hose before spreading hose, rope and helmets as souvenirs. The officers were sent away and told not to return.
Albany Oct 2 Attorney General Davies granted New York American the application to summon coal operators to show cause why anti trust action should not be instituted under the Donnelly law a hearing set for Wednesday Oct 8 afternoon.
