A large blaze gutted the Academy of Murle in Brooklyn on a November morning. The building, dating to 1880, housed a banquet and stage decor for events and political functions. Fire caused extensive damage, leaving only portions of the walls standing and losses estimated at a quarter of a million dollars.
John McNevin, foreman at the Great Northern local freight depot, was arrested Saturday afternoon by Patrolman Ryan on a charge of stealing freight from the depot. Detectives had suspected ongoing thefts. McNevin was found trying to sell carpenters braces at a secondhand store on the South Side and was taken into custody. Detective T. P. O'Connell assisted in the case. The Yukon steamer Wilher Crimminawae reportedly froze up near Danwort after a long voyage from Klondike to White Horse.
Superior Court declares the city ordinance licensing employment agencies invalid. W H Upplinger was fined $16 by Justice George last summer for operating an employment business without a license. He appealed, and the matter arose Saturday on a writ of habeas corpus.

Prof. Dr. Maurice Schmidt, who operated on the Kaiser's throat, and Prof. Dr. Johannes Orth, renowned pathologist, are listed among eminent physicians in diseases of the throat and lungs. Schmidt, aged about 60, lives at Frankfurt am Main. Orth, around 50, residing in Berlin.
