Water Meter Plan Promises Savings and Control
Byers promotes a bill allowing optional water meters in private homes with a meter rate or flat rate option. The meter plan starts at $1 monthly for 2000 cubic feet, about 15 000 gallons, with hours for sprinkling to be regulated. He argues meters curb waste, aid irrigation, and could reduce costs for manufacturers while preserving city revenue after initial costs. Opposition exists from those who misconstrue the proposal as compulsory.
