Drunken Villa soldiers firing from Nogales into U S territory at 11:30 a m. The 12th Infantry returned fire and killed many Villa troops while clearing the streets. No American casualties reported.

Schooner Cove off Vancouver Island witnessed the loss of the Chilean full-rigged ship Carel Mapu with 25 crew aboard after a Pacific storm. The vessel grounded at Schooner Cove at 2 pm and was smashed by breakers within two hours. The Princess Maquinna attempted rescue but could not approach close enough, leaving the crew to cling to rigging as the ship broke up. The ship, formerly Kinross, sailed from Honolulu October 19 bound for Puget Sound under Capt Desolmes.
