Berlin via Sayville Wire reports Orsova has fallen to Teutonic troops. The official statement says on the Wallachian plain Gen Von Falkenhayn's forces near the Alt, and that Orsova Turiu and Severin in Romania’s west were captured with no major engagements on Prince Leopold’s front.
Sir Hiram Stevens Maxim, inventor of cordite and the automatic firearm, died in London at 2:30 a m. He was 76. Born in Sangerville Maine he rose from humble roots to knighthood in 1901. His son Hiram Percy Maxim heads a U S company and Hudson Maxim was his brother.
