D J Torkelson fled Seattle after boarding at Sylvan Beach. authorities seek him. Sischo, a rancher, formerly served in the customs.
A threatening letter aimed at Georges Clemenceau was received today at Charles Dana Gibson's home where the Tiger is staying. The unknown writer, signing as A World War Veteran, warned against commenting on Germany and promised bullets. A police guard for the Chamber of Commerce outing was doubled.

Acting Gov. W. J. Coyle pardoned Robert Chittenden, a Seattle forged check offender, citing punishment served and potential for reform. Chittenden, nephew of Gen. H. M. Chittenden, returned from Walla Walla penitentiary after 2 1/2 years of a 5 to 15 year sentence.
A Southern Pacific passenger and mail train struck a Shell Oil truck at the Hedding street crossing in San Jose. Gasoline from the tank drenched the train and burst into flames. firemen were in peril, and Fireman W. Diercks was fatally burned. College of the Pacific students formed a bucket line to extinguish flames and saved the fourth car.

Council considers C B Pitzgwerald request to amend the five cent carfare ordinance to align with the mayor plan of a straight five cent fare plus six cent transfer privileges. The Fitzgerald ordinance proposing a five cent fare with two cent transfer fee has lingered in council since mid summer awaiting action.
