Verona reported chased by submarine escapes in fog

The Italian passenger steamer S S Verona wirelessed that she was pursued by a double periscoped submarine and a steamer, then escaped in heavy fog off the coast of Spain. Fears have grown that the Verona has been sunk by a submarine in the Mediterranean. No word has come from New York about the Verona, sister ship to the Ancona torpedoed recently with American casualties. The Verona typically carries 300 to 500 passengers sailing Genoa to New York.

In Francisco on November 20 two hours after checking in at the Grand hotel A. Young of Santa Rosa robbed the hotel Night Clerk Martin A. Peters and seized the deposit boxes totaling $3500. Peters reported the crime to police today.
