A large fire in Chicago caused about 250000 in losses to the Armour & Co hog killing plant with five hours of flames. The south end survived, and most of the Chicago fire department fought the blaze as hundreds of water streams surged upward fueled by fat.
Chicago officials report arsenic found in the bodies of Mia Klimek’s two former husbands, Joseph Rushowski who died in 1914 and Jease Mitatewitz who died in 1912. Poison had already been found in her third husband and her fourth is gravely ill. Authorities ordered examinations of five children from the Klimek family.
Struck by a falling timber Friday afternoon at Nettleton mill. T. Reberant, 61, of 369 Alkinve, was taken to Seattle General Hospital with a fractured left leg.
A four cent carfare is proposed to start February 1, 1973 in Seattle if a plan by Mayer Brown gains city council approval. London November 18. H. G. Wells the British writer and Labor candidate was defeated by Conservative Sir Sidney Russell Wells by a majority of 2400 votes. The result underscores a shift in the district as Russell secured the seat despite Wells’s campaign.
YV. D. Torkelson, 67, of 915 N 39th St., died after being struck on Fourth Ave between Jackson and Dearborn. Police sought the driver who fled. Torkelson suffered a crushed leg, severe head injuries, shock and possible brain concussion after two cars struck him. Rotermund reported hitting him and then a second car struck him.
Fifty eight persons were granted final citizenship papers in Federal Judge Jeremiah Neterer’s court on Saturday morning, the first citizenship assembly in six weeks. Hearings are normally biweekly. The postponement due to the election rule led to a large turnout. Another similar number is expected on Saturday December 2.

A late night chase of rum runners ended with two boats exchanging many shots and one party landing 75 cases of Scotch near Bell St dock while police seized 32 cases at a rooming house. Six suspects and two others were arrested with bail set at 700 dollars. The pursuit began at Whisky Cove Protection Island near the Canadian border and continued through fog and miles of water before the liquor was traced to the city. The incident underscores the intensified crackdowns after prohibition.
Walter Nelson a 14 year old dies eight hours after a 32 caliber revolver handed by his brother Theodore 16 misfired during a hunting trip prep scene at Renton Irving near Buffalo station. The weapon fault was investigated by Dr Adolph Bronson deputy coroner.
At San Francisco on November 18 the army transport Cambria docked as Major Laula C. Wilson cousin of Woodrow Wilson came down the gangplank carrying luggage for army nurse Elizabeth Harding cousin of President Harding. The scene drew remarks about friendship and character from Harding and Wilson.
Grosvenor Folsom of Puget Mill Co. claims city county consolidation would save Seattle taxpayers about 926000 annually in payroll. He cites 1923 budget cuts and argues a new Seattle county would reduce sheriff, county engineer, school, health, and other offices, shifting costs to outside districts while trimming city expenses.
L. Lynch, 69, says a man at 3618 Holly St. dueled him with a knife Friday night. Police found knife wounds on Lynch’s face and body after his arrest at Sixth Ave and King St. He was treated at the city hospital.
