Grand Prix Race Ends In Tragedy At Santa Monica
At Santa Monica California on November 18 Lewis Jackson his mechanic John Candia and a woman spectator were killed and two other spectators were dying when Jacksons Mormon car struck a pole at Seventh Avenue and San Vincente Boulevard during the Grand Prix race. In the same event Wilcox led on elapsed time after 15 laps with Resta second and Rickenbacher third. Wilcox clocked 1 26.47 with Resta 29 seconds behind. The Grand Prix was billed as the race to decide Americas automobile championship. Earl Cooper received an ovation as 85000 spectators watched. Resta led early but Aitken was out with a broken piston after one lap.
