The Oval club condemns gambling on college football and mobilizes a movement to suppress it. Downtown poolrooms and clubs are blamed for the rise in betting with thousands wagered publicly on the Stan ce game and many more in private bets. Campus authorities fear gambling could ruin football as horse racing and baseball have suffered.

Seattle born Ruth Miller, a rising movie dancer, wed William Boyd of the Hollywood Lasky studio. Miller, who danced with Wally Reid in Seattle, chose the screen path after his recommendation. Maryland Boyd, daughter of Mr and Mrs H F Miller, Seattle, is her family name on screen.
Sheriff Matt Starwich says he will seize community property to collect poll tax once records are corrected, despite a state attorney general ruling that if one spouse pays the tax the other’s share cannot be seized. Prosecutor Malcolm Douglas cites the ruling and notes muddled books show about half of delinquent lists have already paid but payments are not recorded.
Senator Lodge stated the arms conference will have open plenary sessions for press access when full membership meets. The American plan envisions a congresslike conference with committees handling issues, some possibly in secret, before presenting a program for full conference consideration.
Constable Tom Mulligan was arrested at his home in Riverton by Deputy Sheriff Karl Ramage and Joe Hill on grand larceny charges. The case involves arresting Mrs. Maizie Lavell at the Calhoun hotel and transferring her to the Forrest Hotel where bail was arranged with attorney M. M. Richardson. A Mrs Phinney provided a $100 check, which Richardson and Mulligan allegedly cashed, each receiving $50. Bail for Lavell was set at $25 cash or $50 property, but no bail was deposited.
Three men were killed and a fourth severely injured near the Roseville freight yards when they rushed from behind box cars to grab a freight ride and were struck by a Southern Pacific passenger train. The accident occurred Tuesday in Sacramento.
