Colored Soldiers to Be Dismissed Over Atrocities
President Roosevelt adopted General Carlington's report ordering the dismissal of an entire colored battalion for refusing to reveal members guilty of murder in the southern race war. The targeted troops, from Companies B C and D of the 26th Infantry, allegedly fired on Brownsville houses, killing sleeping citizens. The measure would bar the unit from civil service forever and has sparked wide upheaval in military and Southern circles.
