Germany faces five day deadline to accept or reject armistice terms after the peace plan indicates heavier indemnities for longer resistance. With nine small counties missing and some counties incomplete Truman P. Newberry led Henry Ford by about 5000 votes in the U.S. senate race as returns came in from Detroit today.
Oklahoma results show Sen. R L Owen and Rep Dick Morgan reelected. In the First district Democrat E B Howard leads over Chandler amid a close race. Other districts reelect Democratic incumbents. Suffrage leaders claim women’s ballot approved though the outcome is tight.
The Seattle Metal Trades Council voted to reject the Macy award after three days of review. Delegates were instructed to protest the award and push the August 1 wage scale before employers. San Francisco unions were similarly directed by their locals.
London reports Field Marshal Haig announced the British have reached the main Avesnes Bavay road four miles west of Maubeuge. North of the Sambre our troops advanced beyond the Normal forest to the Bavay road southeast of Bavay and moved west of Bavay. We took a number of additional prisoners.
Columbus dispatch reports at noon on November 6 the tally from 4 195 of 5 756 precincts in Ohio shows wet 309 666 dry 272 199 a wet majority of 37 467 with results continuing to roll in.
Paris dispatch reports Swiss informants saying Germany faces disintegration akin to Austria-Hungary. A secession movement grows in southern Germany with Bavarian deputies backing a plan for a new state including Bavaria Württemberg Baden and German Austria. Government opposition to abdication and military resistance to armistice prompt expected resignations by socialist ministers.
The German government appoints a commission to negotiate armistice terms. Members include Admiral Von Hintze former foreign minister Admiral Meurs General Grendell and General Winterfelt. A government proclamation urges calm to avoid delaying peace and pledges reforms under the new regime.
Paris dispatch reports Germany is expected to indicate within hours whether it will ask Marshal Foch for armistice terms agreed at Versailles. The decision must be yes or no immediately to avoid harsher conditions.
London report says Bavaria will seek a separate peace if armistice terms are not accepted. Amsterdam dispatch notes Bavaria sending troops to defend its frontiers against disbanded Austrian soldiers from Munich sources.
