Dr. Clarence E. Wardell, 4407 Maynard Ave, was killed at the Andover Street crossing in South Seattle when his car was struck by an engine on the O.W. tracks. The wreck left the vehicle in ruins between the tracks. Wardell suffered a fractured skull and a broken leg. Witnesses say he appeared half asleep, riding along the tracks beside the engine before the collision.
John Rech an Italian gardener sits in jail awaiting trial for alleged murder of his two day old son. His wife in an adjacent cell is charged with consenting to the murder. The defense will plead insanity as the case goes to trial in Santa Barbara California.
Enil Sorenson a 25 year old water tender on the Empress of India has been arrested for opium smuggling after being shadowed by Customs Inspector Emory Hughes. He allegedly smuggled taels cans for four years, hiding them in a satchel on trains. he faces arraignment after seeking a lawyer. A Ballard girl mourns a promised wedding disrupted by the case.

Dr. Wardell, born in Seattle 29 years ago and a 1907 Southern Medical School graduate, was struck while crossing Andover Street. He died after urgent surgery at Providence Hospital. He lived at 4407 Maynard Ave S with a wife and a two year old daughter.
The British freighter Hillcrag grounded on a shoal while attempting to cross a narrow passage in Eagle Harbor at 7 this morning.
