A Seattle waiter named Slocum killed himself with poison after a confrontation with a woman he pursued. Police recovered letters to a confederate and a coroner’s autopsy is planned to confirm death by suicide.

With a light statewide vote the Republicans appear to carry Washington by about a 10000 majority for congressmen and the supreme court associate justice. The legislature is expected to be strongly Republican. In Tacoma the Republican ticket has large support and Pierce county likely elects the entire legislative slate. Spokane counties show a split ticket though most voted for Republicans except treasurer. Weather and scratching slow the count.
