Gales Delay Indianapolis Steamship Across Great Lakes

After severe gales and head seas on the Great Lakes, the Indianapolis delayed 86 hours before arriving in Montreal on Friday. A telegram to the Seattle Straits of Juan de Fuca and a letter to Alaska Steamship Superintendent Frank Burns describe the vessel being beset by fierce weather. Purser Morgan reports the Indianapolis endured severe Lake Huron weather after leaving Chicago. The voyage caused no damage and the ship is described as a perfect sea boat. From Montreal she heads to the Atlantic and then New York for preparations to round the Horn.

Bond Issue Planned for New Armory Building

At 3 15 oclock Thursday afternoon the county commissioners voted an 80 000 bond to build an armory for the militia at the intersection of Western and Lenora. The indebtedness runs 20 years at 4 percent interest in 1 000 denominations. Work begins immediately with the states 80 000 appropriation now available and the foundation expected to be complete before spring. The building will include an auditorium seating 16 000 for public meetings.
