Beebe Claims John and William Painter Murder Coverup
Albany Oregon November 2 Peter Beebe a 25 year old farm laborer almost blind with a childlike mind is held on a warrant charging him with shooting the Painters to death. Beebe says John Painter and his son quarreled and he buried their bodies in a straw shed before taking them to a timber burial later. He describes the elder Painter shooting himself after directing Beebe to bury both men and claim they left the country. Sheriff Kendall found a shallow grave about 30 inches deep and wide and Beebe says the elder Painter bade him keep silent about the affair.
