Tunnel Cave Kills Two On Southern Pacific Train

A tunnel one mile south of Coram California collapsed at 6 25 am burying freight train 222 including 45 cars and a caboose. Conductor Ed F P Richardson and brakeman Charles Neate died or burned to death as flames from a stove spread through the cars. Engineers rushed the locomotive to a station for aid, with rescue teams recovering badly burned bodies. Heavy rain soaked earth, contributing to the cave in.

Mine Disaster Kills Twelve at Cambria Steel Mine

Twelve men died in a Cambria Steel mine near Johnstown Pennsylvania in a suspected dynamite blast. All victims were foreign workers as rescuers cleared debris and gas filled shafts for hours and recovered the bodies from the lower levels.

St Louis Cruiser Heads to Seattle for Indefinite Stay

United Press reports the cruiser St Louis sails from San Francisco to Seattle for a northward cruise. The vessel left Mare Island for coal and is preparing to depart for Seattle where its stay is listed as indefinite.

Fall from height leaves stable hand seriously injured

M Benjamin, 19, a Seattle Transfer Co. stable hand, toppled 40 feet from a company table at Grant and Plummer streets. He suffered broken legs and a fractured skull, was taken to Providence hospital in serious condition, and resides at the New Home hotel with unknown relatives. The Seattle Transfer Co. stable is being raised to the new street level above the mud flats.

Riplinger arraigned on embezzlement charge in city fund case

John Riplinger former city comptroller was arraigned on four counts for embezzling from the citys uncompleted work fund He asked for time to plead until Saturday through his attorney Will H Morris The trial date for the charged count is set for Tuesday November 23.

Hy United Press reports in Lenexa Kansas on November 1 that Marshal Haskin was probably fatally wounded as he led a posse against four men robbing a bank. The robbers held off the posse, then escaped in a buggy.

Fifteen Years Prison for Fortier Murder

Jean Fortier was sentenced to 15 years in the state penitentiary at Walla Walla for the killing of his brother Michael and his brother's wife Mary Jane Fortier on the morning of May 8 1909. The judge described the sentence as fifteen years or during fe. Fortier showed a slight wince at the mention of life. He will be moved to Walla Walla to begin his term within a few days.

Pinkerton guard charged with robbing California Neckwear

James Boynton a Pinkerton detective employed to guard the California Neckwear Co. shop in San Francisco is jailed on robbery charges. He was captured by Curtin detectives watching him after the store owners suspected a tampered lock. He admits no wrongdoing.

Mr and Mrs Frederick Stegnj of Stern Furniture Co celebrate one year since opening at 1526 Seconday. Starting with 6000 square feet, they now occupy three times that space with twenty eight staff. Boy Hit by Car on Be Denny Way in Seattle

Nine year old Norman Winder, son of Hadward Winder, was struck by a car driven by chauffeur Arthur Mace on Be Denny Way near Tenthay. He suffered crushed legs and head injuries and was taken to Minor hospital. The driver and several passengers were in the vehicle. ownership linked to J. D. Thomas.

Seattle Division Reorganized Under NP Restructure

The Northern Pacific redivided its divisions effective yesterday. Seattle division now covers the main line and branches north of Woodinville, the belt line from Black River to Prescott, and the first district main from Auburn to Ellensburg. Six dispatchers from Tacoma were removed.
