Seattle mourns Dr. Bories, long time family physician to the poor, who died today after a distinguished 12 year career. He answered every call, charging no patient, and built a large practice among Seattle’s best families while never forgetting the less fortunate. His death follows a brief illness. arrangements pending.
President Roosevelt visited Michigan Agricultural College to speak on The Man Who Works His Hands. He praised free educational training for all and stressed the family’s primacy in nurturing citizenship, noting the college’s national significance as the first state agricultural school. He departed for Seattle after the address.
The disbarment hearings for Paul Dormiteer before Judge Frater were continued to next week. Attorney W R Bell stated he cannot locate his client and believes Dormiteer will not contest the action.
Professor Coakley, an aeronaut, nearly died yesterday in Spokane during a balloon ascent in front of 26,000 fans. His parachute fail caused a fall into the river as the current swept him downstream. Rescuers battled the river while thousands watched. he later recovered after two hours of medical care.
In Cincinnati on May 31 an unidentified man died in a furnace room fire. Engineer John McDermott dragged the charred body from the blaze, admits starting the fire, and was arrested after authorities found a strang coat and hat at the door and legs protruding from the furnace.
Opponents of annexation in Youngstown and Alki prepare quo warranto actions against Weet Seattle officials. Judge Bett says he will force the mayor and council to prove their jurisdiction and the legality of the election. He plans to challenge the count and Spring Hill votes, noting affidavits may be late.
A Cleveland Southwestern trolley collision in Elyria Ohio on May 31 killed seven people and fatally injured fifteen with about twenty more seriously hurt. The second car’s motorman was arrested charged with manslaughter as investigators review the fatal incident involving passengers and a dog in the first car.
Larry Lawrence, who broke his neck diving in the nala terium at Alki Point last Tuesday, is resting at Pacific hospital after surgery by Drs. Silliman and Ghent. Dr Ghent told Star reporters that Lawrence has a chance for recovery with risks from inflammation of the spinal cord and auto intoxication from intestinal paralysis.
Dr Guy Peterkin a leading city physician will wed Miss Agnes Livermore at St Mark's Episcopal Church tomorrow. The ceremony marks a notable social event with Dr Peterkin widely respected in medical circles and the Livermore family prominent in local society.
The bride, a Hoquiam native, is active in club life and Republican politics in the fourth ward. The groom, identified as Piret Hin, is part of the same social circle. After a short wedding journey the couple will reside at the St. Prancts.
Portland May 31 Police arrested a man who closely resembles the lone bandit who held up a Rose City car and killed Conductor Nerina. The car marks on the suspect match those described by motormen and will likely lead to identification this afternoon.
The steamer Ohio of the White Star Line, with agents Schubach and Hamilton, will clear for Nome tomorrow. Capt Brown will serve as master. Seven hundred passengers have secured berths and 1000 tons of cargo fills the holds. Cargo consignments include Nome St Michaels Yukon and Tanana river routes.
A 12 foot deep drowning on Lake Washington ends the life of John de Glover eight and a half years old. He disappeared while with his father near the Schertser float, a floating hat marking the spot. Three hours later his body was recovered 40 feet from the float and taken to Butterworth morgue.
Brent A Lindsey local schoolmaster and 11 year old Lawrence Mack were found near Carbonado twelve miles from Fairfax after three days in the woods. Lindsay was in good condition, the boy weak from hunger after eating only a frog since Saturday. Rescue parties had searched the area while the boy was tended by the teacher.
The real Raffles taunts a counterfeit rival advertising him as a washboard and auto agent. He dares the imposter to appear at a set time and place, proving his prowess by duplicating staged stunts and meeting the real Raffles in public on Second Avenue and James Street.
