Frightful Grant Street collision at crossing

A Grant Street electric car was telescoped by a Northern Pacific passenger train at Grant Street crossing. Emanuel Broad, 35, died. 25 passengers injured, including E E Hope and Frank Hofiditz. Motorman jumped to safety. train overran city speed limit.

Chicago Cloudburst Triggers Citywide Floods and Damage

A May storm swept Chicago and surrounding areas causing rapid rainfall over 28 minutes then flooding basements and damaging property. Reports described the event as a cloudburst with widespread alarm and echoes of earlier disasters.
