Italy officially declares war on Austria. The foreign office issued the declaration and the government immediately issued a drastic decree forbidding all civil or religious public meetings across Italy.
Berlin announces a state of war exists between Germany and Italy following Italy's declaration of hostilities against Austria. Berlin orders diplomats to leave Rome and dispatches Zeppelins and Taubes with heavy artillery to the Adige valley to bombard Italian forts and guard Tyrolean passes.
Gen Cadorna heads troops at Vicenza as Italy places the country under military control. A wartime decree suspends parcels post and tightens censorship. 10,000 volunteers enlist in hours as Austrians bombarded Ancona and Venice while border clashes begin.

The ships were interned in Italian ports and include some of the finest vessels of the German merchant marine. Deputy Sheriff Billy Rogers says his 14 year old mule helped catch burglars who raided his home at Renton Junction Saturday night. The thieves took clothes, food, a gun, and more, leaving only handcuffs and some salt behind.
A Mazsold, 55, a laborer, ended his life by inhaling gas in his room at the Nord hotel 212 First Ave. He had stayed at the hotel about a month and had no known relatives in Seattle.
Dick Kinnear has resigned from the park board, announcement noting he will travel in California and other places. Mayor Gill has not named a replacement yet, and the remaining board members must arrange for volunteer park events and light decorations at the golf links.
