The Laughing Editor of The Star invites readers to submit three best family stories. Three dollars will be awarded daily for six days, encouraging brief entries. Edmund Vance Cooke also issues a daily family jest challenge to Star readers, promising posts while wagering a hat on faster submissions.
United Press reports that nine members of the American peace commission submitted resignations as a protest against the German treaty. The disapproving group appears to be a substantial majority, mainly among lesser members, while some insiders defend the league of nations and Wilson’s compromises. Critics fault Shantung Saar and Italian settlements, fearing the league current form may be insufficient to fix issues in time.

May 21 reports say eight destroyers failed to find Hawker and Grieve. The NC-4 hop off from Newfoundland to Lisbon is postponed due to engine trouble delaying the transatlantic attempt. NC-3 sails home and NC-1 suffered minor casualties after sinking en route.
Police conducted a city wide crackdown on speeding and reckless driving after a spike in crashes, arresting 31 drivers. Names and charges include speed 30 to 50 mph, passing streetcars, driving left of traffic, and unlicensed plates as officers from multiple precincts booked the offenders.
