A Few Lines on the Bic Burg New York
A critical sketch of New York contrasts its vast wealth with deep urban squalor and crowded airspace. It notes the insular view of residents, the city’s paradoxical appeals, and the shift of identity as outsiders claim ties beyond New York.

Wordplay and murmurs from a quirky page of notes
A collage of letters and jibes touches on love and aging with drinks, parrots, and a seaside anecdote about saving a heiress. The piece blends humor about honesty, gratitude, bigamy, and a running gag about cricket and ball games in a casual, opinionated column voice.
Scene at the restaurant ends in firings over rival flirtations
In a chaotic restaurant scene Diana’s diary recalls Casserole firing the narrator and the cashier Miss Zwiebarck over rival Elmore. The love triangle involved staged flirtations, a picture button, and a confrontation with Jessie threatening a report for meddling with customers. The proprietor ended the incident with wraps and a cooling-off.
