The third round of ammunition for the Women's Army Against Waste unfolds today on pad 6. Seattle women contribute practical food saving ideas to the campaign, with the Star inviting readers to send in tips and honoring the women who participate as part of the war effort.
Seattle financier H C Henry opened a quiet campaign against waste in local cafes after an incident at Harry Stahl’s Fourth Avenue dining room. He had his spinach portion split in two and requested only half served, urging half portions with the rest available on request to curb waste.

A foreign observer hailed Pershing's veterans as the finest fighting force in the world. President Wilson calls 21 to 30 year olds into fleet service on June 5 as Gen. Pershing leads 25 000 regulars to France. A 2 600 man marine regiment under Col. Devane sails with the first American army, drawn from Haiti San Domingo and Cuba units. Congress approves navy and marine corps expansion with raised pay, while Roosevelts division is not used. The war budget, revenue and food bills loom as the administration seeks swift passage and unity with Republicans.
