ABE RUEF says he will reveal corrupt influences and defend innocence while refusing to confess. He describes pressure from Mayor Schmit and the machine, pledges to testify when made, and notes 3,000 beneficiaries of his influence, with sentencing scheduled for May 29 and a potential grand jury appearance May 20.
The first house on Main Street was razed as the Union Pacific tunnel advances under the city. A lodging house at Main and Fifth Avenue South was torn down and lumber removed. The temporary tunnel under the old gas reservoir near Jackson Street extends under Main Street to permit dirt removal for the municipal building on Yesler Way, with tram cars able to pass and the shaft timbered.
Vancouver BC May 11 The body of HM Pollexen a well known mining man was found at Lynn Creek Beach this morning. He disappeared Sunday. A search party found him lying between two logs on the beach with his face inside his hat soaked with chloroform inside the hat indicating he killed himself by inhaling fumes. The deceased was fifty years old and not married. He was a native of San Francisco.
