Four graduates were presented with diplomas in a plain ceremony. Ralph T. Fischer Nathan M. Moran and W. J. Greeley from the academic college and Everett J. Brown from the law college spoke briefly before receiving their diplomas.
After the exercise the presidential party dined with President and Mrs Wheeler while Gov Nash of Ohio joined at Mr J W Richards home in Berkeley. At two o clock the guests of honor left for Oakland by carriage escorted by President Wheeler with a brief stop at the State Institute for the Deaf and Blind grounds.
At 3 o'clock this afternoon the presidential party accompanied by President Henjamingide Wheeler of the state university arrived in Oakland from Berkeley. They were welcomed by United States Senator Geo. C. Perkins and Mayor Barstow at the Perkins residence and then driven to Oakland High School with a troop of regular cavalry as an escort.

In San Francisco Gov Nash of Ohio is to be hosted at a Union League banquet while talks on nine hour workdays ripple through local machinists shops and a Seattle firm. A cooperative plan for marine trades aims to unite machinists moulders and blacksmiths in eight hour shifts amid port labor tensions and vessel work.
Topeka Kansas May 15 Mrs Carrie Nation found guilty of joint smashing for entering and wrecking Ed Alurphy's place last February. The jury returned a verdict of guilty after a surprise result that was thought to end in acquittal or disagreement.
At a May 16 meeting in Prague Bohemia manufacturers resolved to launch a campaign for a congress with all European commerce interests to discuss defenses against American competition.
May 15 report from Rome states almost the entire village of Acoronza was wiped out by a huge rockslide. Troops were sent to the site and 15 bodies had been recovered from the debris. The same day in London, J Pierpont Morgan began travel to Aix la Chapelle as the financial climate loosened enough for a resumed vacation.
Machinists signalled a nationwide strike to win a nine hour day with full pay starting May 20 1901. The union seeks 12 percent pay raise and overtime rules with midnights Sundays and holidays at time and a half to double time. Executive members in a hall at 818 First Avenue received sympathizers as talks proceed.
This afternoon tonight and Thursday expect showers with fresh winds. The outlook calls for unsettled conditions across the area with continued gusty winds and chances of rain.
Chicago May 15 Corn King Phillips pushed corn up two cents early this morning selling at 60 cents. Buying was light but market remained strong. Phillips extended the gains later lifting prices to 60 cents forcing many short sellers with elevator interests to settle.
Old city pioneer Wm. Copland was struck on the head by a falling plank from a church under construction near Ninth Avenue and Stewart Street. He suffered a skull fracture and base skull injuries. doctors fear he may not recover. Accompanying him, EF. Nelson described the incident. Dr. Shannon attended at his Minor Avenue home. Copland, 62, also sustained a deep cut above the right eye.
