Lewis Gun saga highlights US indifference to inventors
The article recalls Col. Lewis bringing back the French 75 ideas in 1900 and his Lewis gun not adopted by the United States. It notes Britain and Canada purchasing Lewis arms, their use in Europe, and U.S. testing two Lewis guns at Springfield while Gen. Crozier dodges whether the gun is used in Europe. The piece ends questioning whether the ordnance bureau will continue to snub American inventors.
