The government moves to complete the Lake Keechelus headworks as part of a reclama tion project irrigating Central Washington’s semi arid belt. 800 to 1,000 workers will stay at the intake camp through summer and into autumn. Daily arrivals from the federal employment office fill the camp. Wages range from 2.40 to 2.60 dollars a day for unskilled labor. Workers must have warm clothing and boots due to cold Keechelus weather. The Labor Department also seeks machinists, foundry workers, and railroad laborers for Chicago Milwaukee and Iowa with pay from 25 cents to four dollars per day. Berry picking near Kennewick has begun with 30 cents per crate plus bonus, and 15 cents per crate for packing with a small bonus.
