Fire destroys Mitchell Lewis and Staver building in city

A basement explosion of asphaltum caused a major fire at the Mitchell Lewis and Staver Co. on Main Street just after midnight. Firefighters battled amid falling debris, saving desks and stock while the Fireboat Snoqualmie delivered water streams. Estimated stock value reached 100,000 with 40,000 insurance. nearby Globe Hotel and other businesses suffered smoke and water damage.

Welcome at Redlands as President Arrives in California

The presidential party reached Redlands early this morning and was greeted by Governor Gage and a large reception committee. The train parade moved through streets decorated with bunting to the Casa Loma hotel for formal welcomes and a brief reception before touring local orange groves and hills. At noon the party departed for Los Angeles.
