Reports from Vienna and Copenhagen say Austrian workers halted all work on May Day to press for electoral reforms and shorter hours. The Austrian government denies upheaval while preparing for an anticipated major move, with a manifesto cited by Premier Von Seydier.

Los Angeles May 7 A special session of the California legislature to abolish saloons as a war measure will be called at once by Gov Stephens if pledges of sufficient votes to dry up the estate are made, it is persistently reported.

Bakersfield California adopts an ordinance closing all saloons on Sundays starting this Sunday. The measure aims to enforce sabbath observance by banning alcohol service on Sundays throughout the city.
New York reports that seven crew members of the American 88 Tyler were killed when the vessel torpedoed and sank off the French coast on May 3. The Tyler, originally an Old Dominion line freighter, weighed 3,928 tons and was built in 1913.
The House approved the sedition bill by a 292 to 1 vote today after adopting the conference report already Senate approved. Meyer London of New York was the sole dissenter. Lundee Minnesota and Church California voted present.
In Wenatchee on Sunday afternoon a car overturned injuring two others and killing Mrs. William Dahike of Waterville. The incident occurred as the vehicle rolled over, leaving one deceased and two injured. Police investigated the crash and conditions of the occupants were not immediately released.
