Fort Flagler Washington May 1 1919 Editor The Star publishes a reader’s self signed letter denouncing class based privileges at Fort Flagler and Pier 11 B Seattle. The writer condemns racial and military hierarchy and calls for enlisted men to share their experiences and opinions. He notes a memorandum barring enlisted men from the waiting room and recounts a carriage incident denying children rides with officers.
Street Railway Employes Local 587 discussed a potential strike to press for time and a half pay for overtime. No ballot was taken by noon, and council actions stalled while union leaders warned of possible action if overtime pay is not granted. Stevenson urged that railways commonly pay overtime for extra work.
