A frontier memoir describes tracking a buffalo herd with Brigham the horse as officers from a fort chase the same herd. The narrator shoots eleven buffalo in a display that astonishes the mounted officers who offered a single shot chance after they finish their hunt.
The account recalls Buffalo Bill Cody and Bil Comstock planning a buffalo hunt near Sheridan Kansas. They duel two herds with Cody tallying 69 points to Comstock 48 in a public bout that ends with Cody’s total 126 to 85 and his Buffalo Bill title secured amid cheers.
Mrs Anton Winter, driven by hardship and desertion allegations, was sent to Steilacoom Insane Asylum after testifying about marital strife. Her husband claimed 1.40 dollar daily earnings and loss of temper. Four children to House of the Good Shepherd, two to a husband's sister.
