Paris reports a resignation rumor involving the minister of war and possible delay to the Dreyfus case revision. Other dispatches note McKinley to reveal beef board findings, a new French cabinet plan, Aguinaldo seeking armistice terms, and Dewey reporting Bennington grounding with minor damage.
President Graves of the chamber of commerce said he is consulting with Secretary Proech on selecting ten members for the joint committee in charge of the Washington volunteers celebration. The list is not yet complete and cannot be published today, but Graves likely will include a university professor since Colonel Wholley was affiliated with that institution.
The Western Central Labor union postponed its regular meeting to next Wednesday to discuss the working classes outlook amid trusts. A new Building Trades council aims to prevent debt while funding a union building project. Carpenters’ union shows strong growth as labor unions expand in the city. Victoria officials invited to Queen’s birthday celebration. Bank clearances reach $230,475 with balances at $672,312.54.
The waterfront fills with ships ready for the Yukon run as Beattie serves as a hub for vessels bound to St. Michael and Golovin Bay. Lakine arrives from Astoria under charter to Seattle Yukon Transportation and will go to St Michael later this month. Fulton also due from San Francisco and will operate on the St Michael route.
Ringleaders including two chiefs were jailed in Skagway under a thirty day sentence for obstructing a roadway. US Marshal Tanner and soldiers arrested them after a barricade of boards and brush blocked passage. The clash stemmed from a new north side trail that threatened indigenous canoe trade.
The fate of murderer Charlies W Nordstrom remains unresolved as Judge Jacobs reschedules after Colonel Lewin’s protest over a secret medical exam. Lewin claims bias and seeks a jury and open inquiry, while five doctors were selected to assess sanity. Judge Jacobs adjourns to next Wednesday afternoon after arguments conclude.
The steamer Thomson, en route from Honolulu to San Francisco with one passenger and cargo, lost its propeller after a shaft broke in heavy seas. The Benator towed her toward port while Washington ordered Manila-bound movement for the Senator. Fifteen aboard Thomson were transferred to the Meana, and the tug Relief started a rescue voyage. Alumni of the University of Washington plan tonight’s gathering, and Andrew Carnegie sold his Carnegie Steel stake for 150 million dollars.
The body of Al L. Henteon, a South Seattle fisherman, was recovered from the bay near Washington Ironworks after last seen at 8 pm on Commercial Street. Suspected accident as he slipped or fell into a hole in darkness. coroner Sporting to investigate. letters and photographs indicate he was married with children.
A stranger arrived claiming to ship six carloads of freight and 15 passengers at the best rates. Agents entertained him lavishly as the deal grew, and George P. Cane of the Chicago and Milwaukee railroad secured a $2300 deposit today before the stranger vanished last night leaving the rail folk wondering what happened.
In a personal letter to a friend, Admiral Dewey says he will not desert his command while hostilities in the Philippines continue and hopes to return to the United States promptly after they end. He fears a public reception and requests to come unheralded, though he would welcome a squadron reunion. Dewey remains in Manila with the Philippine commission until normal affairs resume.
A galvanized iron gasoline tank exploded at 4:30 PM at Cahn and Cohn's junk shop by Yester dock. B E Aldrich of Stockton was hurled fifteen feet, breaking his right leg. He and two coworkers were cutting the tank, which may have held nitric acid. Aldrich was taken to Providence hospital. Steamer Orama arrived from Skagway with fifty passengers and 250 tons of ore. A miner near Sam Dam was struck by rock in a blast.
The Cottage City will be drydocked at Port Orchard for overhaul and City of Topeka will take its Alaska route. An April accident caused deaths aboard the Orizaba. a passenger list includes G. Gillmann A. J. Coursen J. Duthis and others. May 0 marks first Cottage City excursion with six trips planned to Sitka Glacier Bay and other popular sites.

Habeas corpus hearing of John Foye, charged with jury bribing in Boston, continued to Monday.
Local and visiting members of the Order of Eagles plan a parade at 10 30 tomorrow morning through principal Seattle streets. The Seattle lodge will hold its regular monthly meeting in Germany hall after the march. At 8 p m Eagles and friends will enjoy social season at Palm Garden hall.
The steamship Utopia, previously on the Alaska run, is chartered by Washington & Alaska Steamship Co to replace City of Kingston on the Seattle Victoria route. Freight and passengers moved to Humboldt as Utopia heads north, with six month Spur route service to begin next Tuesday or Wednesday. By charter end, a Portland steamer, likely the Victorian, may join Kingston routes permanently.
At Morris park this afternoon Fillgrane won the Metropolitan handicap in 1 30½ minutes. Ethelbert finished second and Sanders third.
