Montesbano May 5 The state began presenting evidence in the murder case of Charles Hadberg after a jury statement by William Gohl former Sailors Union agent Aberdeen. George L Lightfoot testified he found Hadberg's body in Indian Creek near Grave Harbor noting the head on an anchor. His brother and George Mar U corroborated. Prosecutor Campbell outlined the case while Gohl watched and his lawyers took notes. The defense objected to the mention of John Hoffman whom Gohl allegedly shot. The court cautioned Campbell to avoid Hoffman. All witnesses were excluded before trial.
President Taft, en route to Washington, weighs taking a hard line on railroad regulation. He plans talks with House and Senate leaders after returning and may press the bill, warning of tense sessions if he decides to fight.
Water service will be interrupted on Summit Avenue North from Denny Way to BE Thomas Street tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Utilities warn customers along the stretch to plan accordingly and expect temporary disruption.
Mrs R Dillman of Victorville launches an expedition to locate the mythical Peg Leg mine and the ioot mine said to lie in the San Bernardino valley, tracing back to Peg Leg Smith who reportedly found gold in 1820. Dozens of parties have sought the spot over 65 years amid desert death legends.
Charles E. Booth, a stenographer, smoked a 10 cent Havana for 1 hour 56 minutes while continuously typing. The feat surpasses Henry Schmitz of Brooklyn who smoked 1 hour 50 minutes last week. Eight witnesses observed Booth's remarkable endurance.
Five grand jury indictments were dismissed in Judge Ronald's court as the state lacked sufficient evidence. Four target cafe owners for allowing disreputable women to frequent their premises, naming Newport, Angeles Cafe, Columbia Cafe, and Tannhauser. Pierce, a saloon man, also had his indictment quashed.

The national tribute aims for about 1 million dollars with subscrip tions potentially capped at 1 dollar, led by T J Groce and Col W L Moody.
