Woman’s Orient film scheme blocked by tariff
Mrs Loa McCurdy of Seattle returned from the Orient after attempting to import moving picture films. She failed due to tariff on photographic supplies and cheaper foreign imports that hurt American sales. McCurdy left Seattle around March 1 by the Canadian Pacific Line and aimed to Shanghai. She claimed demand existed in the Orient and hoped to profit through U S films, but competition and tariffs limited success.
