May 4 after a 900 foot fall from the top of a huge Tacoma Smelter chimney Thomas Brooks a lead burner escaped serious injury. He left Fannie Paddock hospital and told his employer he would return to work in three days. He lowered himself by a rope to beat mates and fell to a platform but survived. He is 25 and from Pinola Alabama.

Fiends At Work Endanger Grand Reservoir Repairs
Two dynamite charges were placed under locks of the Grand Reservoir at Marys Ohio by unknown assailants. one failed to explode, the other blew off lower gates and damaged masonry. The incident risks loss of life and property and marks a second attack in ten months. Jewelry stolen from Walter L. Smith of 24 Mercer Street on April 17 was recovered from thieves in Portland and linked to Seattle burglars.

W H Miller and Frank Shay receive three year sentences each in the penitentiary for counterfeiting. Capt Bell of the local secret service relayed the news.
