Villistas beaten by U S cavalry near Guerrero

Washington reports Col Dodd's cavalry struck the Villistas at 6 am near Gurrero after a 55 mile march in 17 hours. Villa not present due to injuries. Four Americans wounded, none seriously. Dodd captured rapid fire guns saddles and munitions. battle lasted five hours with a running fight as both sides moved toward the mountains.

Lone man tries to seize ship off Sandy Hook

Ernest Schiller disclosed a plan to seize the 5000 ton British steamer Mato pho off Sandy Hook. He overpowered the ship's commander after a hold up and said four accomplices planned to stow away and, at a signal, overpower officers and cow the Chinese crew with revolvers. They fled Hoboken before the voyage. If the ship was outside three miles when seized, he could be hanged as a pirate by Britain.

Germany Will Make Excuses

President Wilson and his cabinet discussed the submarine crisis amid a muddled mass of evidence. Four vessels tied to German U boat attacks are in question, including the Eagle Point reportedly in British service. Germany may argue the Englishman was torpedoed while fleeing and the Sussex hit a mine. Officials anticipate the Kaiser will offer a defense for the sinking of the British S. S. Manchester Engineer. Seventh Cavalry Fights Villista Column at San Geronimo

A dispatch to Consul Garcia from Juarez reports the Seventh U. S. Cavalry clashed with a Villista column of about 500 men under Eliseo Hernandez at San Geronimo on March 30. Hernandez and 30 Villistas were killed, several Americans wounded. Villa is said to be wounded and hiding near Guerrero.

Freeze-out alleged in S R S reorganization plan

Superior Judge Frater signaled permission for a reorganization of Seattle Renton and Southern Railway under a plan small creditors claim will leave them holding the bag. Attorneys for claimants warned the plan favors bondholders and urged selling the company under court order on May 1 unless a different plan is agreed by Saturday.

Farm of County Under Water at The Willows

Deputy Sheriff Frank Ell ett reports The Willows county industrial farm near Kirkland is flooded with about 100 acres submerged. Ten prisoners are working on sleeping quarters as the farm, 423 acres total, is prepped to grow produce for county institutions. Dredging six miles is needed to open the river channel. The farm was bought for $112.77 from C D Stimeon. Harilton and Knudsen approved, Carrigan voted against. Most unflooded land is rocky and nonarable. Water is expected to drain or seep away soon.
