Starvation Report Sharply Criticizes Irish Famine Conditions

MP William O Malley warns of famine in Ireland as landowners fatten livestock on rich ground while thousands, including women and children, starve in Mayo Galway Donegal and Limerick areas. He compares the plight to prior reconcentration methods amid widespread unemployment and dwindling food reserves.

Dyspepsia Tablets touted amid famine reflections

Starvation and resistance in beleaguered Ireland

SWEENY SELLA WUT to MINES SPOKANE

Advices from New York say Charles Sweeny of Spokane has sold his stock in the Federal Mining & Smelting company for 2 660 000 dollars. Control of the Federal is believed to pass to the Guggenheim interests dominating the American Smelting & Refining company. The annual meeting was held March 20 in New York City with little change in the directorate. The Federal common stock disappeared from the New York stock exchange the same day. The boom in Federal common stock follows a dividend increase from 6 to 10 percent, and the stock has risen from about 40 to 110 a share. The Coeur d Alene mine produced half of all refined lead in 1904, with the Federal yielding about 40 percent of its output. The plant now pays 1 600 000 dollars yearly in dividends and remains a key piece in the lead market. In 1904 Coeur d Alene produced 217 900 000 pounds of lead and 6 260 000 ounces of silver. Federal produced 94 300 000 pounds of lead and 3 032 000 ounces of silver. A suit to test probate fees was begun Tuesday by C M Nettleton executor for Dr Mcl Brown against County Clerk Otto Case, claiming inventory fees are excessive.
