Secretary of the Interior Frank Lane predicts a six month period of full employment and rising prosperity. An Illinois gas and electric power manager endorses the outlook, noting strong industrial conditions and excellent grain crop prospects with favorable prices.
The White Star liner Arabic arrives from New York after a tense pursuit by a German submarine in the Irish sea. The submarine closed to torpedo range but could not overtake the faster liner, and the chase ended without incident.
Vic Gauntiett a Star cartoonist debuts as vaudeville performer at the Empress next week drawing local notables with brush and ink. He aims to give his act permanence beyond crayons and hopes for success in the vaudeville circuit.
The World's Most Noted Evangelist announces a newspaper revival in Seattle via The Star. He urges readers to study six sermons printed in the paper during Holy Week to decide to accept Christ as Savior. Each sermon restates core beliefs and presents his strongest arguments to follow Jesus.
