Lindsay found guilty of murder in Pawtuxet trial

The jury returned a guilty verdict of murder for Lindsay, a colored man, in the killing of Lottie W. Church, a white woman, near Pawtuxet. Judge Douglas imposed a life sentence after arguments over jealousy and motive.

Two Hangings for One Day in Pennsylvania

Gov. Stone sets May 14 for the executions of two murderers James A. Clemmer in Montgomery county jail and Jonas Preston Jr. Chester county in the West Chester Jail. Clemmer aided Kaiser in murdering Kaiser’s wife for insurance. Kaiser previously attempted suicide in his cell. Preston, a Black man, killed his wife at Dee Run Chester County. his prior death sentence was delayed by a technicality.

Ohio Falls Car Works Sold to American Car and Foundry

American Car and Foundry company purchased the Ohio Falls Car Works for 2.1 million dollars in a cash deal. The Ohio Falls plant in Louisville is now under combine control since March 1, with local holdings including 10,000 shares and three fourths of the bonds. Jacob Smyner, president of the Ohio Falls Car Works, becomes a director of the American Car and Foundry company.

Germany and Trans-African Telegraph Pact Reported

In Berlin today, Foreign Minister von Ruediow announced an agreement with the Trans-African Telegraph company to build a telegraph line in the German East Africa protectorate connected to the South African line. The project costs and five year completion are set, with German law applying to workers in East Africa and a two wire line to Rhodesia near the frontiers to be government property. Railroad talks remain confidential.

Donald, an eight year old English pug, died Sunday at George W. Leach’s home, a wealthy box manufacturer of 164 Hart Street, Brooklyn. His funeral was held yesterday after illness began Thursday.

Death of a Pet Dog Donald and Its Funeral Farewell

Mrs Leach and her daughter buried their dog Donald with care after his illness. An undertaker prepared a satin lined coffin but a larger silver trimmed casket was found. The dog was laid to rest at Mr Leach's summer home in Lynbrook IL after a train journey from Long Island. Donald was a bright, affectionate pet who could bark his name and age.

Man Arrested in 1896 Duryea Stone Killing

In 1896 John Giveonouski was struck with a stone after a political meeting in Duryea and died the next day. Three men were jailed a year and acquitted. Tonight Joseph Nesmeth confessed to Justice Gilboy that he threw the stone and is jailed in Wilkes-Barre on murder charges.

Details of an oyster trust announced in New Haven describe a New Jersey based company of 5 million dollars capital, later 10 million, led by Andrew Radel of Bridgeport Traction. Marion officials report Anna Lawrence of Marion was arrested in Norristown Pennsylvania for fraud linked to the Home Christian society here. The society is run by Henry J Lawrence and his sisters Mary and Anna.
