Mrs Idah McGlone Gibson author of Confessions of a Wife has returned from the war where she served with the American Red Cross and The Star on a special mission. She begins an exclusive series for The Star detailing her experiences over there.
The author recalls visiting the American Red Cross in France and meeting Captain Latham of the Connaught Rangers. He describes soldiers’ faith across religions, their courage amid shellfire, and the sorrow seen in civilians and wounded troops, concluding with the stark statement I believe in hell as sure as God.
In Los Angeles on March 16 a limousine sped through Cowtown streets during a chase for $20,000. Jack Beresford, a wealthy Canadian, said he was swindled by a woman and two men who flashed past in a limo and escaped.
In Albany on March 16 the New York Assembly considers a resolution urging California Governor to grant a stay of execution for Thomas J. Mooney, convicted of murder over his alleged involvement in a bombing plot.
British aviators claim 118 German planes downed since March 1 with 64 destroyed and 34 sent earthward. Night raids near a village disrupted enemy forces while daylight bombing continued.
