Dutch liner Tubantia sinks after midship explosion

The Royal Dutch liner Tubantia sank in the North Sea after a terrific explosion amidships. 87 passengers and 300 crew were aboard. all are said to be saved. Captain reported possible torpedoing. wreck created a huge stern hole as lifeboats and rescue boats aided survivors near land.

Ocean Liner Tubantia Sets Sail for Buenos Ayres

The Royal Dutch Lloyd Tubantia departed Amsterdam for Buenos Ayres with 13 911 tons and 540 feet length. Captain H K Wytama commands the ship described as an elaborately outfitted ocean palace. Some passengers or sailors may have perished during the excitement, but advices say all were saved.
