Madge Anna Sawyers second murder trial was postponed after doctors diagnosed acute appendicitis. Judge Gilliam ordered examination, delaying the case which will return to the docket for a future date. Sawyers previously convicted on self defense and insanity claims and was free on $15,000 bail.
President Harding waits for assurances from Britain that Colonel George Harvey is acceptable as the American ambassador to London before sending his nomination to the Senate. No assurances have been received and it is practically certain Harvey’s nomination will not go to the Senate today.
President Harding will call an extra session of Congress on April 11 to begin work on pending nominations. Senate leader Senator Lodge announced after a White House conference. The Senate will stay in session tomorrow to complete nominations before adjournment.
