Japanese Victory Ledger Tops Mukden Advance Report

The dispatch notes General Kuropatkin’s army retreating north of Mukden with two corps west of the city in an isolated, undersupplied position. They are unlikely to break the Japanese cordon and will probably join the prisoners taken when Mukden fell. Minister Teraoutchi congratulates General Oyama while Oyama credits his officers and men for the victory.

Looted Warehouse Near Grant Street Security Break

Pedestrians near Baker and Richards storage plant on Grant Street Bridge spotted burglars tossing loot from the warehouse windows shortly after 9 p.m. Police, including Cit Detective Hu and Acting Jailor Devel, arrived quickly but the robbers had already fled. Hotel proprietor Charles Corun dies by self inflicted shot

Charles Corun 66 a longtime Seattle resident and proprietor of the Fifth Avenue hotel shot himself in a room of the Fifth Avenue hotel at Yesler Way. He acted alone after being seen about the place earlier and his death is believed due to long standing depression. His wife Mrs Corun found him around 12 30 pm with a revolver nearby.

Chadwick Trial Opens In Cleveland Court

Attorney Dawley began the opening for Mrs Chadwick amid emotion as her son watched. Judge Taylor delivered the charge to the jury at 2 45. Dawley finished at 11 25 then District Attorney Sullivan spoke for the state. Mrs Chadwick cried during Dawley’s peroration and the jury retired at 3 30.
