Norfolk March 2 For a time this morning the street car strike threatened an open outbreak. By order of the governor four companies of militia were called and stationed at the Armory. A meeting between strikers and employers led to a noon agreement, workers returned to duty and troops were discharged. The agreement is described as temporary with a likely ultimate settlement of all disputes.
Morrison M. Rowland aged 13 was struck by a B B and ER train near Sunydale while attempting to board. He died at the hospital from internal injuries and shock after being rushed to Whatcom.
In Passaic New Jersey the Saddler river swept away a bridge between Passaic and Dundee. Six people who stood on the structure were believed drowned as the flood carried the bridge away early this morning.
Republican chairman John J. Miller projects a 2000 vote majority, with Mayor Humes possibly leading the ticket. Democratic chair L. C. Gilman predicts Godwin's win, conceding 200 in First Ward for Humes and a 1500 lead citywide, yielding a 1200 majority for Godwin and most of the Democratic ticket.
