June 28 Port Townsend reports T Olson a foreman at the Austin Williams logging camp crawled into a shallow hole and hid for four hours as a forest fire raged above him. He endured intense heat and near suffocation before being rescued.
The Star reports Seattle residents pressuring for a public market to cut midlevel profits and curb price manipulation by commission men. Comparisons show Seattle prices higher than Portland and Tacoma for fruits and vegetables, suggesting Seattle suffers livability costs. Frederick J Veika a Baltimore street car man with 37 years of service faced no fatal incidents despite a long career on the Madinen Ave line.
