Secretary Baker told the senate committee the War Department prefers not to alter draft ages for now. He cited lack of a fully developed plan as the reason and noted the Army would still build to about 3.44 million by September with 1.45 million in France.

In Tacoma on June 26, 13 year old Chas Savisky is jailed on charges of shooting Willie Sal 14 on a country road near Burnett. Willie is in a hospital with a belly wound and Savisky says he fired to frighten the other boy after a meeting about fishing. Americans push into Gebweiler area as French raid successes mount. Austria Hungary faces renewed peace demands amid the Piave victory. Texas becomes bone-dry under a statewide prohibition act at midnight.
United Press dispatch from London reports Italian forces score a north front success near Monti in the Grappa area. Caposile bridgehead recaptured, 375 prisoners taken, hundreds more, and salvage of arms amid a shrinking Austrian force. Major Baracca’s body found near Montello. Cronstadt reportedly killed himself.
London June 26 The Italians driving northward into the Venetian mountains and pushing along the Piave report initial gains. The war office says successes on the Asiago plateau Mont Grappa sector and Tonale pass. The Piave west bank cleared and enemy surrender reported along with 3000 extra prisoners. Vienna claims 50000 prisoners since the offensive began and Italian losses as low as 150000.
Alexander Kerensky former Russian premier spoke in Russian at the British labor conference in London. He praised democracy and urged unity with the Allies, asserting Bolsheviks oppose Germany and predicting Russia’s democracy will prevail. News of his arrival in London surprised many as reports linked him to America.
Norfolk Va June 26 reports say the cruiser type vessel believed to be the mother ship of Atlantic coast raiders has been sighted in West Indian waters. It is alleged to have sunk a large British steamer.
