Seattle Teachers Diploma Hold Up Amid State Probe
The Seattle school board heard that 27 diplomas for extension work may not be granted as the state board of education probes the certifying method. Teachers asked for pay during absences but were refused. About $7,000 in fees to Wil lam F Parish and James Hever were paid by teachers who were told the extension work would yield diplomas. The board questioned legality since students did not spend 36 weeks in residence study. The matter rests with the state board. The board also voted to add a domestic science department at Mc Donald school and favored unifying school lunch rooms. Vacation schools opened in six high schools with 725 enrolled for high school work at Broadway and 1,500 for elementary study.
