In a Frye Hotel Debate Club gathering, guests wrestled with the question of whether a hen sits or sets on eggs. After two hours of discussion, spokesman A. B. Ferguson announced the decision: we set the eggs and a hen sits. Other attendees cited dictionary definitions, but the crowd remained divided.
Port commission studies a municipally owned elevated electric loop around the Sound rapid transit terminus. Plans include taking over Colman and Grand Trunk Pacific docks to form a large union depot and routing street cars along the waterfront to move marine passengers uptown. If docks fail, a new port dock at Bell street could be remodeled.
At the General Federation of Women's Clubs in Chicago delegates were alarmed by Geo. Kneeland's claim of a 300-strong list of rich families' daughters secretly practicing immorality. He warned clubwomen to protect their daughters, noting many rebels turn to strangers and that even seemingly respectable teens, in Massachusetts, were leading vice-filled lives.

Denominations reduced to 100 dollars with 5 percent interest. 750 bonds of 75000 total. Subscriptions may be filled Saturday at port commission office.
In Gordon court Frank Lindquist, a first offender, is jailed ten days with a $20 fine after prior $15 fine. Fred Magnussen pays $30 but defaults. Lysle Bower gets $3 for tail light violation. New rule: fines reaching $100 or more after next week mean jail, except in business districts for speeding 30 mph or more.
The Seattle Star urges Washington Republicans at the state convention in Tacoma to adopt a progressive platform or openly oppose progressive ideas. It argues for social and industrial justice and warns against manafed delegate manipulation and weak platforms.
Madison Wis June 17 The state supreme court upheld the constitutionality of the Wisconsin eugenics law requiring both parties to a marriage contract to obtain physicians certificates of physical fitness before a license can be issued. M B Gallagher of Brighton Reach has asked police to locate Charles Gallagher believed to have wandered from home during a fit of temporary delirium. Since being bitten by a dog some weeks ago the young Gallagher has suffered temporary mental lapses.
Pauline Painter plans a three month Alaska expedition with rifle and knapsack to hunt caribou and mountain sheep. She travels with her Seattle aunt Mrs. Webster Norcross and a mixed party including A. Dalton Harrison and Henry Landsberger, sailing to Sitka then overland to Dawson while fishing for salmon in season.
El Paso dispatch notes rumors of a split between General Villa and Carranza. Despite denials, analysis says Villa may soon control Northern Mexico. Thirty Carrancista officers were sent to Torreon, as Villa calls his aides. Censorship of Villa telegrams is cited as a grievance.
Blanche Smith, called the woman in the case in the death of Nome merchant Michael D. Samuels, was released by the prosecutor after three coroner jury appearances. Prosecutor Murphy reported no evidence to justify her arrest. Also reported a break in at 973 John Street, where jewelry valued at 200 was stolen from Mrs BE Curtis after a Portland trip.
Kathleen Meek of 409 Dexter Street fainted from hunger while walking to church at 2324 Sixthay last night. Passersby carried her to a nearby house for aid, then to City hospital. Policewoman Wiard investigated. husband reported to be in and out of work. She had a nothing to eat all day yesterday and was on her way to church to seek assistance.
Citizens are urged to register urgently to vote on the Hinky Dink charter. Registration closes at 5 p.m. Friday. Books are open at the Prefontaine building. Those already registered for the March city election need not re register.
